Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Come learn basic improvisation tools and rules by playing a variety of improvisation games based on the "Mother of Improv," Viola Spolin!  A presentation of games will be performed at the end of the week.


Stand-Up Comedy and Impersonations
When: June 21-25, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Target Audience: Grades 9-12

There's a science to comedy.  Come and learn YOUR formula!  Dive into the fun world of stand-up comedy with this five-day camp led by ReWired's artistic director, Vicky Saye Henderson.  You'll also discover how to create and perform your own celebrity impersonation routine.  A showcase concludes the week on Friday.


Shakin' Up Shakespeare!
When: June 28 - July 2, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00

Interested in making Shakespeare fun?  We will conquer Shakespeare's most famous monologues, sonnets and poems; learn about the famous Globe Theatre; and perform what we have mastered at the end of the week.  Come see how the Bard can be fun!


Fairytale Drama

From the swashbuckling "Puss in Boots" to the romance of "Sleeping Beauty" and the comedy of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves," participants will find their "inner Shrek" as they act out timeless stories and make up some of their own in this fun class for beginners.


Inside the Chocolate Factory With Willy Wonka!
When: July 12-16, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Working with the director and musical director of Workshop's production of Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka, emphasis will be placed on character development using music, choreography, and scenework from Willy Wonka. Participants will be joined throughout the week by cast members from the show – including Willy Wonka himself! – as they explore the theatre’s world of pure imagination. (Each participant will receive $2 off Student admission to Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka, which runs July 9-24!)

Come and revel in the fast, fun and fantastic world of Improvisational Acting, as well as its kindred spirit, Sketch Comedy! Master the basics of improv play by learning the fundamental tools of collaboration and spontaneous story-making. Create original comedy sketches both individually and in writing teams. A week-ending showcase on Friday will allow us to show off the week's good "work & play"!

Advanced Musical Theatre Dance

Introduction to Acting

This is a workshop-style class for people who have had little or no acting training. It is designed to introduce the student to theatre, and the basic principles of acting for the stage and/or screen. The class will have a relaxed atmosphere and comes with a 100% laughter/fun guarantee!

On-Camera Acting for Adults

Auditioning for and acting on-stage is one thing. Doing so on-camera for commercials is its own animal! If you've ever wondered what goes into auditioning for commercials, this class is for you. It can also serve as a fun refresher course for those with experience. The class will cover useful terminology, where and how to learn of opportunities, and how to prepare and what to do at both the audition and the shoot.

I've Always Wanted to Try Acting

Not quite ready to sign up for a multi-week class? This workshop is for you! Students will learn some basic acting concepts and participate in acting exercises. This is a no-stress way to "get your feet wet" in acting/theatre.


British Dialects

This workshop is designed for actors and/or speakers who would like to improve their ability to eliminate the "southern" dialect and be able to pick up other dialects with ease, focusing on British. Students will learn the International Phonetic Alphabet, which is an alphabet of sounds, as well as the basics of how dialects work, practicing both upper- and lower-class British dialects. Workbook included. A must-have for any serious acting student!

Broadway Bound

Monday Masters

Working with versatile instructor, director and choreographer Dedra Mount, Director of the WT School of Performing Arts, performers ages 5 to 18 have the chance this summer to take "master classes" in dance for musical theatre, voice – and fun! Classes are open to all levels of experience and ability. No two sessions will be alike, and the sessions will not build upon one another. So you can sign up for any number of sessions and any combination of sessions – it's up to you!

The "Monday Masters" sessions will also serve as auditions for Workshop Theatre’s 2010-2011 Broadway Bound program, an award-winning musical theatre company for young people now in its second decade in the Midlands!

Note: "Monday Masters" participants may choose not to be considered for membership in Broadway Bound.

Schedules & Rates
(Schedules & Rates are the same for each of the dates listed above. Walk-ins are welcome, but an additional $5 will be charged for participants who register on the day of the session.)

Ages 7-11: 10 a.m. to Noon – $25 per session
($15 per session for current members of Broadway Bound)

Ages 5-6: 12:15 to 1 p.m. – $12 per session

ALERT:  Members of our staff have received inquiries about the classes titled "Broadway Bound" that are being offered by Southern Strutt this summer. Please note that, despite the duplication of our program's name and the involvement of an instructor who has taught for Workshop Theatre, these classes are in no way connected to the Broadway Bound musical theatre company at Workshop, which is now in its second decade.

ReWired

"Make 'Em Laugh" - Improvisation & Sketch Comedy

June 12 * July 10

This workshop for Grades 7-12 will be offered from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Led by ReWired director Vicky Saye Henderson, participants will learn the secrets of improvisational acting as well as the basics of sketch comedy writing.  Explore how to think quicker on your feet, avoid the dreaded "brainfreeze" and courageously go wherever the story or game takes you!

The "Make 'Em Laugh" workshops will also serve as auditions for ReWired, Workshop Theatre’s improv comedy team for young people.

Note:  Participants of this workshop may choose to not be considered for membership in ReWired.

$33 per person
($25 for current members of ReWired)

Full payment for each class or workshop is due at registration.

A 10% discount is available on the second and subsequent camp, class or workshop for families with more than one student, and for students taking more than one camp.

Refunds will be issued for any classes or workshops canceled by Workshop Theatre. Participants who choose to withdraw from a class must do so by 5:00 p.m. on the registration deadline date to receive a refund.

Minimum enrollment for all camps, classes and workshops is 5 participants.

Workshop reserves the right to remove participants from any classes due to behavior problems.
