Workshop Theatre brings family drama to the stage with Jon Robin Baitz’s Other Desert Cities March 22-31 at Columbia College’s Cottingham Theatre.

Directed by Jeffery Schwalk, Other Desert Cities tells the story of Brooke Wyeth as she returns home to Palm Springs after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas with her parents, her brother, and her aunt. Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir dredging up a pivotal and tragic event in the family's history — a wound they don't want reopened. In effect, she draws a line in the sand and dares them all to cross it.

Workshop is excited to have veteran director Schwalk guide his first show on our stage. He leads a talented cast that includes Dell Goodrich, Debra Kiser, Bill Arvey, Marshall Spann, and Resi Talbot.

The New York Times said of Jon Robin Baitz's Pulitzer-prize nominated play, "The most richly enjoyable new play for grown-ups that New York has known in many seasoClick to enlargens … In his most fully realized play to date, Mr. Baitz makes sure our sympathies keep shifting among the members of the wounded family portrayed here. Every one of them emerges as selfish, loving, cruel, compassionate, irritating, charming and just possibly heroic … leaves you feeling both moved and gratifyingly sated."

General admission ticket sales begin for members on March 13, and for the general public beginning March 15. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the Box Office at 803-799-6551 from noon to 5 pm during the week. On the weekends, the Box Office opens two hours before the show begins. Tickets are also available at the door the night of the show.

All performances will be at Columbia College's Cottingham Theatre, located at 1301 Columbia College Drive | Columbia, SC. Parking is available on campus.
